On Friday, we had the privilege of hosting the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ’Bosun Tijani, at our assembly factory in Lagos. During his visit, the Minister witnessed firsthand the assembly processes behind our mobile phones, tablets, and other devices.
In a welcome address, our Chairman and Founder, Osayi Izedonmwen, provided Dr. Tijani with an overview of our journey, from importing devices to local assembly and becoming the leading indigenous mobile phone and tablet brand in West Africa.
“We began local assembly with our flagship IM-10 desktop phones in 2018. By 2021, we introduced our Omotab series, children’s educational tablets that quickly became the highest-selling indigenous tablets in the region,” Izedonmwen shared.
During the visit, Dr. Tijani remarked that “meaningful connectivity cannot be achieved without affordable devices.” His visit aimed to explore ways the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy could support Nigerian companies like ours in simplifying production processes, ensuring our products are both available and accessible to Nigerians.
Our Chairman and Founder emphasized the need for affordability in the smartphone market, stating, “For Nigeria to achieve pervasive broadband access, we must prioritize affordable smartphones, especially for low-income earners and underserved communities.”
He also pointed out the significant cost burden of batteries in smartphones, proposing that local production of lithium batteries could drastically reduce these costs. “Nigeria is rich in lithium resources, yet much of it is currently exported. As a leader in smart device production, we see an opportunity for backward integration. We envision a future where we lead the charge in producing smartphone batteries right here in Nigeria.”
At Imose Technologies, we are committed to driving innovation, creating affordable tech solutions for Nigerians, and supporting the growth of the digital economy. We believe that with the right support, we can build a future where quality technology is accessible to all Nigerians.
